Awards and Competitions

Trainee Mason of the Year

We invite Stone Federation member companies to nominate one or more of your apprentices to enter this unique Award recognising the craft of the mason.

The skills of the stone mason have been amply illustrated throughout the centuries, from the ancient Egyptians and the pyramids, to the craftspeople who worked on the buildings that formed our nation's heritage such as St Paul's Cathedral, York Minster, Canterbury Cathedral and Edinburgh Castle, to name but a few. The craft of the mason is still in existence today in projects such as Temple Bar, Paternoster Square and Cathedral of St James, Bury St Edmunds. It is a skill that needs to be cherished and nurtured to ensure that the long line of skilled craftsmen and women continues into the future.

Too often the masons have been the unsung heroes and this Award aims to change that by giving them recognition where it is due. The Award is to be given, in recognition of their achievements, to the apprentice who has shown the promise, commitment, consistency and an exceptionally high standard of work since commencing their training.
