UK Masonry Skills Challenge

The competition is open to teams of three from each stonemasonry college. Candidates must be enrolled in the relevant stone masonry course, in one of the first three years of training. Students who are enrolled in further training courses are not eligible for this competition. There is no age restriction.

Competition details

As a competitor, you will be given a drawing, a piece of stone and some materials for making the necessary moulds and templates.

The stone will be Portland stone and the piece will involve having to work mouldings and therefore, you will need to bring the tools you feel are appropriate. A suggested tool list is enclosed. The use of air tools is not allowed.

Prizes

As there are now two heats for this competition the overall individual winner of each heat will receive a trophy to commemorate this. Once the two heats have been completed, the overall scores will be calculated and the winners will be announced. There will be three individual winners, first, second and third, based on marks and three team winners based on the three candidates' collective marks. The winning college will be presented with the UK Masonry Skills Challenge Peter Ellis Shield and each team member will also receive a smaller trophy as a memento and a cheque for £50. The individual winners will also receive the following prizes:

1st Prize a cheque for £300

2nd Prize a cheque for £200

3rd Prize a cheque for £100
