Over the last few years, Stone Federation has been an integral part of the shift in the conversation around the structural use of natural stone, and in particular, the impressive carbon savings that can be made by using stone in this way.

In light of this, Stone Federation formed a Structural Stone Working Group that has brought together some of the leading experts on this use of stone.  The group is exploring the design typologies, systems and testing required to bring this use of stone into a more mainstream acceptance.

We are delighted to announce the launch of our purpose paper for A Guide to Structural Stone.

This introductory document sets the context for the project and provides a series of definitions to help deliver clarity around the different building types that come under the banner of structural stone.

A Guide to Structural Stone is designed to be an ever-evolving library of resources equipping architects, structural engineers and clients with the information and inspiration required.

Next week, some of the team from the working group will be unpacking the project on the main stage at London’s ExCel on Thursday 8th May at 2pm.  This will be a great opportunity to find out more information and ask your questions.

At our Stone Symposium: The Case for Stone in July we will again be bringing together some of the leading voices around this topic including some of the universities that Stone Federation is working closely with on the development of structural stone resources.

This is an exciting new frontier for the sector and one that Stone Federation, and a growing number of our members are leading the charge in.
