We are delighted to announce an exciting new chapter for the Ethical Stone Register.
We first created the resource in 2016, in response to the 2015 Modern Slavery Act and as a way for the stone industry to demonstrate its commitment to tackling the issues of responsible and ethical sourcing.
Over the past ten years, the conversation has developed, and the wider specification landscape has changed. In light of this, we are excited to announce a new, streamlined Ethical Stone Register.
The previous, three-tiered system of declaration, verification, and certification is being condensed into a singular Ethical Stone Register membership.
Companies will be required to complete a robust and far-reaching questionnaire, which will then be assessed against the required criteria. Once you have successfully met the requirements, you will become a member of the Ethical Stone Register.
Following conversations with a large number of members, we are aware that while for most companies and their clients, this level of assessment will be sufficient, for others, independent verification is required. In these cases, companies will be able to take their Ethical Stone Register membership assessment to a third-party auditor of their choosing to have this independently verified.
Ultimately, our aim is for the Ethical Stone Register, together with your Stone Federation membership, to be another differentiator between you and your competitors while providing a scheme that is commercially viable for the industry.
Next Steps
There will be two phases of the rollout of this new chapter; firstly, we will be gathering as many members as possible to join the Register. We are aware that part of the value of the resource is the critical mass of companies listed on it. Therefore, if you are not already an Ethical Stone Register member, please click here to start the process.
For those already a part of the Ethical Stone Register, we will need you to check your submitted information and ensure it is up to date, so please email matt@stonefed.org.uk to request the link to review your existing submission.
The second phase will be launching the updated scheme to architects, main contractors, clients, and local authorities, and securing the Ethical Stone Register’s place as the only natural stone-specific ethical sourcing scheme.
We are aiming to launch this phase around the summer, so please ensure you have secured your place on the scheme by then to benefit from the publicity push.
The annual cost of being a member of the Ethical Stone Register will cover the administration, marketing, promotion, events, and development of the scheme and will be priced as follows:
Band A (company turnover up to £500k) – £275 + VAT
Band B (company turnover £500k – £5m) – £475 + VAT
Band C (company turnover over £5m) – £675 + VAT
This will include a free place at the annual Ethical Stone Register Breakfast Briefing, which will be exclusively for Ethical Stone Register members to connect with main contractors, architects, and clients.
We are excited for this new chapter of the Ethical Stone Register and look forward to your participation. Please note that the Ethical Stone Register is only available to Stone Federation members.
