What does the job involve?

Normally laying to drawing pre-cut and manufactured stone on an existing adhesive bed or a sand andcement bed. Cutting and trimming of stone using wet and dry cutters. Manual work.

What kind of person would it suit?

Someone with a natural ability with their hands. Does not have to be an academic but have a basic understanding of mathematics and english. The work is hard, sometimes during unsociable hours, but very rewarding.

What are good subjects to do at school?

Good basic education. Mathematics, art, English, woodwork, drawing, sports

What training will I need?

Preferably an apprenticeship or training with a Stone Federation company

How much outdoor work is there?

Very little 5%

How much computer work is there?

Minimal, but an advantage if involved with design, measuring, drawings, cutting,schedules for manufacture templating.

What's the money like?

As a guide, salaries range between £25 - £45,000 p.a.

What could it lead?

Fixing mason, foreman, supervisor, site manager ordirector. Your own ability will establish a long term career which is very rewarding with natural materials.
