Travertine Floor Grind and Diamond Hone

This travertine floor in Bourne End, Buckinghamshire, required a full restoration due to significant lippage across the tiles. The uneven surface not only affected the appearance of the floor but also created a safety concern in several areas. Our team carried out a complete mechanical restoration to level the surface, enhance the stone, and create a clean, refined finish.
The Travertine Floor Grinding and Honing Process
The project began with a deep mechanical grind using metal-bonded diamond tooling. This stage removes lippage and ensures that each travertine tile sits level with its neighbouring tiles. Grinding also strips away worn or damaged surface layers, preparing the stone for a consistent hone.
Once the surface was fully flattened, we repaired and filled the exposed holes within the travertine. This step is essential for maintaining the structural integrity of the stone and prevents dirt and moisture from settling within the natural pits.
We then carried out diamond honing to refine the surface. Using professional honing pads, we created a smooth, silky matte finish that enhances the natural character of travertine while improving slip resistance and overall appearance.
To complete the restoration, the floor was sealed with a high-quality breathable impregnating sealer. This protects the stone from stains, moisture, and everyday wear while allowing the travertine to breathe naturally.
